Benson is located in Johnston County and is the location of the annual celebration, Benson Mule Days. This is the county’s largest three-day celebration and has grown to attract 50,000 people for its parades, rodeos, dances, barbecue and more. This celebration started out as a harvest festival in honor of its surrounding farm community and of course the mule, which was their beast of burden. Benson Mule Days is held every year on the fourth weekend in September.
“The Sing” or The State Annual Singing Convention takes place annually on the fourth weekend in June. This is the oldest festival in the county and one of the oldest in the state. It brings in enthusiasts and participants from several surrounding states. It is a great weekend of gospel singing, competition and entertainment.
Located within an hour drive of Benson are several universities, minor league baseball, The North Carolina Symphony and many other great attractions.
